Compostela means "Field of Stars", is a municipality located on the southern coast of the state. It was founded on February 13, 1530, known as the first capital of the kingdom of Nueva Galicia in honor of the city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, which during the colonial period was called Compostela de Indias; and where the current name of the municipality derives.
Place full of history and beautiful streets with a colonial touch due to the Spanish influence of its foundation. With an extensive territory of green valleys and jungles, with a variety of flora and fauna, and beautiful beaches of crystal clear turquoise water. Compostela, is underpinned as one of the favorite tourist destinations of foreigners and nationals, as well as a midpoint to enter the Riviera Nayarita.
Municipality where the sea, the mountains and its people live together. The production of its coffee zone is one of the most important worldwide. Named Pueblo Mágico during 5th. National Fair of Pueblos Mágicos in the city of Morelia, Michoacán in October 2018.
